A New System of healthcare - Receptionist 'Sign-Posting'
Modern healthcare increasingly needs a team approach. You may need to see a nurse for a vaccine or smear, a healthcare assistant for a blood pressure check, the doctor because of a new symptom, or talk on the phone with the secretary regarding a hospital appointment. So we use a system of receptionist sign-posting, to ensure you are put through to the most appropriate person. Don't be offended if the receptionist asks you a few details regarding your problem or query - they are trying to get you to the most appropriate person in the practice as efficiently as possible.
How to make an appointment
Please call our main switchboard number on 01274 664464 to book an appointment at our surgery.
Routine (non urgent) appointments
If your condition is non-urgent, you can expect to see a GP within two working days, though you may have to wait longer if you want to see a particular GP.
If you need to book a routine follow-up appointment with a particular GP you can make an appointment up to five weeks in advance.
Please phone after 9.30am to avoid busy times.
Routine appointments are available during normal surgery hours with the practice nurse and/or doctor. We hold regular clinics for Diabetes, Phlebotomy, Well person checks etc etc . Please see the ‘clinics and services’ section for the full list.
Same day appointments
Urgent cases are seen on the day.
if we are unable to offer you an appointment we will offer you a contact with the on-call clinician. The receptionist will take your details and pass these onto the doctor on-call to assist you. The doctor will then assess your problem and either offer you a telephone consultation or an appointment later in the day at the surgery.
Appointments initiated by the practice
These are for patients who have a long-term or chronic condition that needs monitoring on a regular basis. We will let you know when your next appointment is due with the practice nurse or doctor either by post or email.
If this time is not convenient, please telephone reception to re-arrange it. It is important to continue your regular check-ups, even if you are feeling well.
Nurses based in our practice treat patients for a wide range of common conditions. You can expect to see a nurse within one working day and all of them are qualified to prescribe from a range of medicines. You can book up to a month ahead for clinics – please see the ‘clinics and services’ section.
